The Western New York Health Risks Assessment (HRA) is a study conducted approximately every five years to measure health behaviors in the 8 counties of Western New York. It is a collaborative effort, bringing together the skills of county health departments, educational institutions, health providers, health research groups and others.

The HRA was first conducted in 1998/1999 as a means of acquiring health behavior data at a county-specific level. The report was distributed to local agencies and used to prepare hospital community services plans, community health assessments, the State of the Region Report and presented at Healthy People 2010.

In 2004/2005 the study was conducted again. Many questions remained the same allowing us to compare trends over time. Some questions were improved or removed. New questions were added.
